Amazing Australian Film Locations You Need to Visit

We have always seen Hollywood movies featuring amazing locations from out of this world fantasy cityscapes to beautiful skylines of a bygone era. Many have failed to identify that some places were shot in Australia! In fact, the country has a long reputation of hosting top filmmakers and providing backdrops to memorable movies we have seen.

When you visit Australia, don't forget to check out the stunning scenery that the country has to offer. There are no camera tricks or green screen just in case you wonder. Here are the best Australian film locations that show us why we need to get our backpacks ready and give it a go!

1. Have you visited Robertson, New South Wales? Well this is where "Babe" (1995) was shot on location and not on the typical British countryside that thought it was. Visiting this place doesn't mean you will venture into the inhospitable outback. There's countryside as far as your eyes can see and the green farm land that goes with it. Just in case you love the pleasant walks and fresh air then it is the perfect place to get out from the hassles of city living.

2. Another interesting place to visit and it's for real - Jindabyne, New South Wales. Starring Laura Linney, the 2006 film named after the place itself featured the breathtaking Lake Jindabyne and the beautiful Snowy Mountains. If you love skiing then this is the place to be as a number of top ski resorts dotted the Kosciuszko National Park.

3. Love an amazing road trip with the adventure of visiting the places featured on the 1994 film "The Adventures of Priscilla"? Pack your bags, take the same route as the infamous drag queens did and drop by Sydney, Silverton, Broken Hill, Cooper Pedy, Kings Canyon and Alice Springs.

4. Aussie actress Toni Collette starred in the 1994 classic "Muriel's Wedding" wherein the East Coast's beautiful scenes were the hit: Sydney's Darling Harbour, the amazing Surfers Paradise, the picturesque Gold Coast and the beautiful Hamilton Island.

5. "December Boys" (2005) may not be your favorite film but having Kangaroo Island for the most part makes it interesting. Just watching the scenery makes you want to visit the place itself and see for yourself why it is so special!

6. In 1986, Steve Hogan (Crocodile Dundee as he is popularly known) was the man! But it was the Kakadu National Park that took center stage as the best film locale.

7. Of course, the 2008 eponymous film "Australia" should be filmed in Australia in all its glory and showcase its rich history, landscape and human beauties - Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman. Where to go? Darwin. Actually, it was shot in Bowen thanks to Queensland providing half a million dollars to help the film. Other interesting locales include the Kimberly Ranges, Kununarra, and various parts of New South Wales.

8. Who would have thought that the box office trilogy "The Matrix" was shot Down Under? In fact, Sydneysiders walk and drive around the places shown on film.

9. Another iconic American superhero in Australian location? Yes, Metropolis has Sydney as its location double for the 2006 "Superman Returns." The amazing scenes include that of Elizabeth Street, Martin Place, Narrabean Beach and The Australian Museum (which stands in for Hyde Park). Lex Luthor even has its own Australian mansion with the Rivendell Hospital.

10. It seems surprising that a dark thriller movie starring Australia's own film star Nicole Kidman would showcase some of the most beautiful paradise Australia has to offer. "Dead Calm" has film locations in the Whitsundays, Hamilton Island and the Great Barrier Reef.
