Best Jobs in the Australian Outback

As they say, the Outback is right in the middle of nowhere where no one stands behind you. This remote rural location has more flies and kangaroos than people and it offers positions not for the faint of heart.

Since your stint would be on these outposts, there is a paid short-term, seasonal position in exchange for board and lodging. If you're eligible for a working holiday visa in Australia then you can work and even do a little bit of study on the side.

So if you're willing to go to the bush then these are the perfect jobs for you:

1. Station Hand
Ranches need all the help that they can get since these areas have more cows that they can handle. Australia has over 29 million cows to begin with! And there is so much area to cover as well. A job as a station hand can thus include a bit of everything: from riding horses and mustering cattle, to mending fences, driving tractors and looking after other station livestock. Expect to get your hands dirty.

2. Hospitality Workers
A hospitality job at Bondi or Whitsundays provides you quality experience in the country's picturesque locations. Such jobs specialise in customer interaction such as food servers, bartenders, front desk reservation, and housekeepers.

3. Roadhouse Staff
Much of Australia are vast stretches of land that far away from the nearest gas and service stations so there are roadhouses to provide all-around service from convenience stores, caravan parks, cafes and motels. Due to the typically small numbers of roadhouse staff, an all-rounder is responsible for a variety of activities: from serving beverages, making coffee, cleaning accommodation, selling souvenirs, and even cooking meals!

4. Aboriginal Community Shopkeeper
One of the most unique ways to know more about Australia is to work in an Aboriginal reservation. Although foreigners are not typically allowed on reservation land, anyone with a working visa may find employment in a community store. Bear in mind that the work site is remote and is best suited to open-minded individuals. Daily tasks include stocking shelves and ordering supplies, serving customers, maintaining store policies, and cooking takeaway meals.

5. National Park Volunteer
Australia's national parks have paid, contracted jobs that require relevant experience but sometimes need volunteer and short-term positions that focus on conservation and preservation efforts.
